Lens Stories from the Manufacturers

Nikon's NIKKOR — The Thousand and One Nights is the best-known manufacturer-written lens history, but it is not the only one. Fujifilm and SIGMA produced named series of their own; Canon, Panasonic, and Pentax published smaller collections of developer interviews and design stories; and Leica and Tamron maintain substantial first-party lens histories.

This guide gathers those first-party articles in one place. Each company page links to the original manufacturer article and, when the exact lens is available in the Surface & Stop catalog, to its interactive cross-section.

What Qualifies

The index is intentionally narrower than a general photography reading list. A collection must be hosted by the manufacturer, recur across multiple articles or chapters, and concentrate on lens design, manufacture, or product history. Press releases, specifications, reviews, ambassador galleries, and ordinary marketing pages are excluded.

The match standard for Surface & Stop links is equally strict. A link appears only when the catalog contains the same lens generation, not merely a successor with the same focal length and aperture.
