Biography

Yoshinari Hamanishi, whose given name Nikon renders as Yoshinori, was a Nikon optical designer and teacher of lens-design theory. He inherited zoom-design methods from Soichi Nakamura and applied them to several popular AI and autofocus telephoto zooms. Hamanishi also advanced Micro-Nikkor design by combining a fast Gaussian objective with floating correction for close-range performance. Nikon describes him as an authority on zoom solution curves who later took responsibility for training other optical designers.
