Yoshiyuki Shimizu

Biography

Yoshiyuki Shimizu was a prolific Nippon Kogaku optical designer who joined the company in 1952. After training in optics, mechanics, lens processing, and polishing, he moved into the design of camera and microscope optics. A protégé of Zenji Wakimoto, Shimizu helped develop the Nikkor-S Auto 50 mm f/1.4 and later created its next-generation successor. His broader work encompassed fast normal and wide-angle lenses, fisheyes, and catadioptric telephotos.
