Focus Mechanism

G2 moves toward the object for close focus (US 7,839,577 B2, col. 25, ll. 65–67). The patent tabulates infinity focus only, so every finite state here is derived: at each zoom station G2 is moved, with d1 + d2 held constant, until a paraxial object at Nikon's 0.45 m minimum focus distance (object to image plane) is sharp. That takes 1.07 mm of travel at 18.4 mm and 4.55 mm at 102 mm. Intermediate keyframes are solved for 0.45 m divided by the focus coordinate.
