Mamiya 7 expanded the modern Mamiya rangefinder idea to 6x7 format. It kept interchangeable leaf-shutter lenses and a built-in dark slide for lens changes, while abandoning the collapsible mount of the Mamiya 6 to support a larger mount throat and wider lens range.

The lens family covers ultrawide through moderate telephoto options, with some lenses using external finders and the longest lens requiring scale focusing rather than full rangefinder coupling. The system is famous for delivering very large negatives from a body that remains far more portable than most 6x7 SLRs.
