Nikon 1 mirrorless mount, introduced in 2011 | 1-inch type / Nikon CX digital
Nikon 1 was Nikon's first digital mirrorless interchangeable-lens system. It used the CX 1-inch-type sensor format, a short 17 mm register, and a fully electronic lens interface in bodies such as the J1 and V1.
The system emphasized speed, hybrid autofocus, compact lenses, and video-friendly operation more than shallow depth of field or large-sensor image quality. The FT1 adapter also let users mount many F-mount lenses, producing very narrow angles of view because of the 2.7x crop factor.
In catalog comparisons, Nikon 1 lenses show how optical design changes when the image circle is much smaller than Micro Four Thirds or APS-C. The mount favors tiny zooms, compact telephoto reach, and high-speed consumer use rather than classic full-frame rendering.
