Kiyoshi Hayashi

Biography

Kiyoshi Hayashi was a Nikon optical designer, mentor, and one of the primary designers behind the AI NIKKOR generation. His first objective, the 200 mm f/2 IF-ED, achieved an unprecedented specification and led to further internal-focusing supertelephoto work. He also became the third-generation steward of Nikon's negative-positive wide-angle zoom method and trained later designers. In 1994 Hayashi and two colleagues received a Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation prize for their internal-focusing supertelephoto inventions.
